ONGC Recruitment Entrance Exam

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), India’s leading Maharatna PSU in the oil and gas sector, recruits for various technical and executive positions through multiple modes. As of late February 2026, there is no separate nationwide entrance exam (written test/CBT) announced specifically for ONGC Recruitment 2026. Instead, most flagship technical recruitments (e.g., Graduate Trainees / Assistant Executive Engineer – AEE) are based on GATE scores, while some other posts use direct applications, interviews, or contract-based selection.

Primary Recruitment Mode: Through GATE 2026

ONGC’s major annual recruitment for Graduate Trainees (GT) and AEE in Engineering & Geo-Sciences disciplines is done using valid GATE scores (no separate ONGC written exam for these posts). This has been the standard process since 2012.

  • Posts Covered: Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) in disciplines like Drilling, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Electronics, Cementing, Production, Reservoir, etc.; Graduate Trainees in Geosciences (Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist).
  • Eligibility:
    • B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. (Engineering) in relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD).
    • Valid GATE 2026 score in the corresponding paper (e.g., ME for Mechanical, EE for Electrical, IN for Instrumentation, GG for Geophysics, CY for Chemistry).
    • Age limit: Typically 30 years (relaxations for reserved categories).
  • Selection Process:
    • Shortlisting based on GATE 2026 score (weightage often 100% for shortlisting).
    • Personal Interview / Group Discussion (for final merit).
    • No separate written test — GATE acts as the entrance exam.
  • Expected Notification: Mid-to-late 2026 (after GATE 2026 results on March 19, 2026). Previous cycles released applications in April–September post-GATE.
  • Vacancies: Usually 700–1,200+ posts (varies annually).
  • Salary: E1 level (₹60,000–1,80,000 basic pay + allowances; CTC ₹15–20 lakhs+ per annum).
  • Application: Online via ongcindia.com (after notification).

GATE 2026 was conducted by IIT Guwahati on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, with results on March 19, 2026. ONGC recruitment for 2026 intake will use these scores.

Other Recruitment Modes in 2026 (No Separate Entrance Exam)

  • Contractual/Consultant Roles: Recent notices (February 2026) for Associate/Junior Consultant (LAQ/RoU/Forest Clearance jobs) — selection via interview/experience (no written test).
  • Sports Quota: For sportspersons — trial-based or achievement-based (no entrance exam).
  • Apprentices: Through NAPS portal (ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in) — merit/shortlisting (no exam).
  • Summer Internships 2026: For students — application-based (no exam).
  • Other Posts (e.g., Medical Officer, Domain Expert): Often direct applications, walk-in, or interview (no common entrance).

ONGC does conduct separate Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for some non-GATE posts (e.g., Finance, HR, or specific non-technical roles), but no such major CBT has been notified for 2026 yet.
