
GATE 2026 Exam Dates
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is the national-level entrance examination for admission to Master’s programs (M.Tech, M.E., M.S., Ph.D.) and PSU recruitment in India. It is jointly conducted by IIT Guwahati (organizing institute for 2026) and the other seven IITs + IISc Bangalore on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
1. GATE 2026 Exam Dates & Schedule (Official)
- Official Notification Release: Last week of July 2025 (tentatively 25–30 July 2025)
- Online Registration Start: Last week of August 2025 (tentatively 24–28 August 2025)
- Last Date for Regular Registration (without late fee): Last week of September 2025 (tentatively 25–30 September 2025)
- Last Date for Registration with Late Fee: First week of October 2025 (tentatively 1–7 October 2025)
- Application Correction Window: October 2025 (usually 7–10 days after regular closing)
- Admit Card Release: First week of January 2026 (tentatively 3–7 January 2026)
- GATE 2026 Exam Dates: First and Second week of February 2026 → Most probable window: Saturday 1 February to Sunday 15 February 2026 (2 weekends, multiple shifts per day)
- Provisional Answer Key Release: Third week of February 2026
- Answer Key Challenge Window: February 2026 (usually 3–5 days)
- Final Answer Key Release: Last week of February 2026
- Result Declaration: Third week of March 2026 (tentatively 15–20 March 2026)
- Scorecard Availability: March 2026 onwards (downloadable for 3 years from result date)
Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) Duration per paper: 3 hours Two sessions per day (morning 9:30 AM–12:30 PM, afternoon 2:30 PM–5:30 PM) Total papers: 30 (new papers may be added; 2025 had 30)
Note: These are the most accurate expected dates based on the unbroken pattern followed since GATE 2019. IIT Guwahati will confirm the exact calendar in the official notification (expected July 2025).

3. Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2026
- Educational Qualification (as on 31 July 2026):
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years)
- Bachelor’s degree in Science / Arts / Commerce (3 years) + valid for M.Tech/Ph.D. in IITs/NITs
- Final-year students of 2025–26 batch are eligible (provisional admission)
- No minimum percentage requirement (relaxed since 2021)
- Age Limit: No upper age limit
- Nationality: Indian nationals + foreign nationals (with valid passport)
Qualifying degree at the time of admission (not at the time of exam) is sufficient — final-year students can appear and get provisional admission.
4. GATE 2026 Registration Process
- Application Fee (expected – same as recent years):
- General / OBC-NCL (Male): ₹1,800
- SC / ST / PwD / Female (all categories): ₹900
- Late fee: +₹500 (if paid after regular closing)
- Payment Mode: Online (net banking, debit/credit card, UPI)
- Steps (when portal opens):

- New Registration → Create account (email + mobile OTP)
- Fill form → upload photo, signature, degree certificate (if completed), ID proof
- Choose 1 primary paper + 1 secondary paper (optional)
- Pay fee
- Submit & download confirmation page
- Correction Window: Usually 7–10 days after regular closing (limited changes allowed)

6. Exam Pattern – GATE 2026
- Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Duration: 3 hours
- Total Questions: 65
- Total Marks: 100
- Question Types:
- MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) – 1 or 2 marks
- MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) – 1 or 2 marks
- NAT (Numerical Answer Type) – 1 or 2 marks
- Negative Marking:
- MCQ: –1/3 for 1-mark, –2/3 for 2-mark
- No negative marking for MSQ & NAT
7. Qualifying Marks & Score Validity
- Qualifying marks → Vary every year (depends on difficulty & normalization)
- Typical range (2024–2025):
- General: 25–35 marks
- OBC-NCL: 22.5–31.5 marks
- SC/ST/PwD: 16.5–23.5 marks
- Score validity: 3 years from result date (for admission to PG programs)
